1969 - 1970
FIRST GENERATION: 1964–1973
1969 was the second major Mustang restyle, and the ’69 – ’70 models are perhaps the Mustangs that truly established the distinctive long bonnet / low roof line that has characterised the Mustang brand for most of its life. The ‘69’s were longer, wider and lower than before, with an increased engine line up. The 302 engine continued, but was joined by the legendary 351 power plant in both Windsor and Cleveland form. The 428 Cobra Jet was also available. Mach 1 took the place of the GT as the premium model specification, with a number of unique and stand-out styling and interior features. ’69 and ’70 models, especially in fastback form, shout unbridled performance and “look at me” sports styling in every way.
