Launched with a nationwide advertising blitz on April 17 1964, Mustang hit the market with two door sporty styling and features at a very affordable price. Mustang was an overnight sales success, with over 400000 sales in its first year alone across the three bodystyles; notchback, convertible and fastback. Ford’s 289 ci V8 became the staple engine from June 1964, and in “K code” specification with 271 hp, established Mustang’s credentials as a performance leader. 1964 -66 Mustangs are immediately recognisable by all car fans as the model that changed the automotive world, and gave birth to the Mustang legend!
