Ford National Mustang Convention 2020: Media release September 22, 2020

After recent weeks in a holding pattern awaiting clarity regarding present and projected covid restrictions, the Canterbury Mustang Owners Club is delighted to announce that the Ford National Mustang Convention will take place as planned in Christchurch on Labour Weekend, October 23 to 26. This follows confirmation of L1 conditions for most of NZ as from midnight September 21, and the move down to L2 for Auckland (and possibly L1 from early October).

Garry Jackson, President of the organising club, Canterbury Mustang Owners Club, expressed delight that the Convention has been confirmed, albeit via a long and challenging journey.

“The announcement earlier this month of possible L1 conditions beyond Auckland, from September 21, was a positive trigger for us, but it also gave us two big challenges to overcome before we could confirm the Convention. Firstly, we had to ensure that we could actually pull it off with a severely compressed lead time and all the work required to finalise the detailed arrangements. Secondly, and perhaps more important, we were forced to identify an acceptable plan to best manage the financial risks involved.

“We’ve addressed both these issues, and we’re really buoyed by the positive messages and encouragement we’ve received continuously over recent weeks, and the unwavering support and commitment of our great sponsors.  We’re also encouraged by the positivity that we see in the recent announcement of the two All Black Bledisloe games in the coming weeks.

“We’re really looking forward to what we know will be a great occasion for Mustang owners, Mustang enthusiasts and the public of Canterbury with the Grand Mustang Show on Saturday October 24 at Horncastle Arena.  We had great success with NZ’s biggest ever Convention in 2014 in Christchurch, and we have every confidence in our 2020 event. Getting to this point has felt like a roller coaster ride for almost two years, but we’re upbeat and determined. Start your engines!”

Further information will be released in the next two weeks outlining the detailed plans for the Convention’s showpiece, the Grand Mustang Show at Christchurch Arena on Saturday October 24. Organisers are confident that the scale of the Grand Mustang Show, and the special feature Mustangs and attractions, are sure to excite and draw auto enthusiasts from far and wide.
